Does my cat have worms?

(18 Aug 2009)

Question

I was wondering if my cats chewing around his tail is indications of possible worms?

Response

Thank you for your email regarding your cat. Without seeing your cat, I cannot tell you exactly what is wrong, however I can give you one or two indications.

I would suggest that you treat your cats for fleas with a good quality flea product from your Vet, ie frontline or advocate. You cat may have fleas or a possible flea allergy. It is harvest mite season as well, and cats can pick up harvest mites, these are orange little mites that are intensely itchy. These can be treated with Frontline spray, available from your vet. I would also advise that you worm as well for tape and roundworms.

Either way, if the itchiness persists, you need to consult your vet.
