World Animal Week 4th- 10th October 2009

(09 Sep 2009)

World Animal Week has become a globally recognised calendar event that unites the world in its celebration of animals and helps raise the standard of animal welfare and happiness worldwide.

In Ireland in 2009, World Animal Week takes place October 4th-10th to coincide with the feast day of St Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals.

World Animal Week is a very special week of the year when we can celebrate the wonderful role that our pets play in our lives and try to show them just how much they mean to us. In that spirit, Pedigree and Whiskas with RTE and numerous animal welfare organisations are searching for the “Best Loved” dogs and cats throughout Ireland.

Another tradition of World Animal Week is that Pedigree and Whiskas donate food to SPCAs and charitable animal organisations each and every year. These organisations will serve on the competition’s judging panel, short listing only 8 dogs and 8 cats, from hundreds, even thousands, of entries! But in the end it is down to, the public, to vote for your favourite finalists! And remember, for each vote from you, Pedigree and Whiskas will donate a meal to SPCAs and welfare organisations across Ireland!

How to enter

Send an e-mail to worldanimalweek@rte.ie and tell us why your dog or cat is the best loved in Ireland. We welcome information about your dog or cat’s history, personality, grooming, health, diet, hobbies, etc – but remember to keep your entry under 150 words! Send us a picture, too, but note that judges will not be choosing winners based on beauty. We are looking for the best LOVED pet! The deadline for entries is the 16th of September.

Town/City
County
