Red mark on my cat's chin

(27 Aug 2009)

Question

My cat recently developed this red mark on his chin. I thought at first she had scratched herself by accident but it resembles what a carpet burn on a human would look like - red and slightly raw. It has changed colour in the last few days to a darker red. It doesn't seem to irritate her in anyway. She eats and plays as normal. I was wondering what it could be? I'm not sure if its getting better or worse!

Response

It could be any number of skin complaints and even though the cat is in great form, it is always worthwhile getting your vet to check any skin lesions, particularly if they are changing in any way. I think a visit to your local vet would be important in this case.
