Vickie Fenlon, VN, Practice Manager
Meet Vickie Fenlon!
What is your job title in Cara Vets?
What made you want to be part of the veterinary world?
Since the age of 14, I wanted to be a Veterinary Nurse. I always loved animals and knew that being involved in the veterinary field was what I wanted to do with my life. It is a decision that I have never regretted and a job that I continue to love.
I began my veterinary nursing career in 1989 in the UK. I then went on to qualify as a Veterinary Nurse in 1992 working in the South-East of England, in the Yorkshire Dales 'James Herriott Country' and in the PDSA in Cardiff.
When did you join Cara Vets?
I moved to Dublin in 1997 to be closer to my parents and I've been working with Cara Vet Group ever since. I returned to full-time nursing in 2002 and as the company developed, I stepped in to the role of Practice Manager.
What do you do?
As part of my role in Cara Vets, I am responsible for managing staff, HR, Accounts Payable & Receivable, insurance claims and queries, health and safety, complaints, pet export and many issues with clients.
What do you love about your job?
The animals, the fact that no two days are the same, our clients are just amazing... The variety and job satisfaction. It is an amazing job and I feel lucky to have it.
Who is one of your most memorable patients and why?
My most memorable patient was a collie called Phoebe Wrafter. She was just the most gorgeous dog. Beautiful personality, as clever as the bees and totally devoted to her owner. I cried like a baby when she was put to sleep.
I enjoy spending time with my family, reading and going to the cinema.
