What is your job title in Cara Vets?

Marketing Manager

When did you join Cara Vets?

I joined Cara Veterinary Group in 2008.

What made you want to be part of the veterinary world?

My parents had a great love for nature and they passed that on to me.  An opportunity with Cara Vets arose following a bereavement, when it became important to me to work in a caring and compassionate environment. As soon as I met Syd, I was inspired by how caring he and the rest of the team dealt with life and death situations on a daily basis. I'd watch with admiration at how they welcomed new fur babies into the world, and how they wiped the tears of clients saying goodbye to long time members of their family. I jumped on board and haven't looked back since.

What do you do?

I am the Marketing Manager of Cara Vets, so I am responsible for the design, creation and maintenance of our website and all our marketing activities. I keep our clients in touch with what's happening in Cara Vet Group, and I'm dedicated to raising the standard when it comes to the promotion of animal health.

Having graduated from the Institute of Technology, Tallaght with a Higher Certificate in Computer Science in 2000, and 19 years sales and marketing experience, my technical and creative expertise enables Cara Vet Group to be at the forefront of technological advancements.

What do you love about your job?

I love everything about working with the Cara Team and feel it's an honour to be the one who gets to tell the Cara story on their behalf. I get to be innovative and push and stretch the boundaries of what is considered normal, and make it behave differently.

Technology keeps me on my toes in terms of design to content creation. I love it, and continue to enjoy the journey of learning more so I can make my marketing more measurable, creative and diverse in distribution. It's fun to watch our clients interact with our media as they become our brand ambassadors.

To me, it's simple. I found the Cara Team inspirational and still do, so my job is the easiest job I've ever had.

Who is one of your most memorable patients and why?

My most memorable patient is the the biggest dog I've ever seen: a beautiful Irish Wolfhound named Siúcra. She arrived in to us in labour and in distress. It was the first emergency I had seen in Cara Vets and it was jaw-dropping to watch the skill and precision the team had. Siúcra was trying to give birth to a large litter, and some of the pups were struggling to breathe. The care the nurses put into saving their lives was indescribable. All hands were on deck and 6 pups were thankfully born healthy and well. It was amazing to watch and equally amazing to watch Siúcra and her pups afterwards.

Any hobbies?

I inherited a grá for speaking Irish and music. In my spare time, I play piano, practice yoga and love to spend time with my wife, family and friends.
